That's my boy...

The picture is actually a pretty good representation of his mischievous personality, especially the eyes. Johannes is really a lot of fun, and I hate to see him grow up so quickly.

And that's not apple juice, but Almdudler, an Austrian soft drink that's been around since 1920.

I took this picture on our last day in Austria when we -- die Männer!!! -- snuck away to the local Brauhaus in my wife's village, Ottensheim, to spend the last of our Euros on a worthy cause. Here's a good link for the Brauhaus with lots of pictures.

He Aint No Amatuer of Beer...

...Or Lutheran theology. (Dr. Rev.) Kung Fu Grand Master Kurt Marquart died this morning. Our prayers to the surviving members of his family. He taught at Concordia Theological Seminary.

He was able to baptize his great grandson last night.

Lutherans are big on baptizing.

Beer in Halifax

Just a quick post as supper is almost on the table, but I had the privilege of trying a couple new-to-me beers when I was in Halifax, Nova Scotia visiting with my brother a couple weeks ago. I would like to note that Alexander Keith's IPA is still very good, but, in my opinion, AK's Amber Ale surpasses it. Full flavour, rich amber-red colour, a real ale. 2 thumbs up.

Also, I tried another beer with fish and chips... I think it was a Propeller Bitter. Also very good. Halifax is a great spot to visit if you'd like to try some English-style beers.

"My" Bar in G.R.

I think I found "my" bar in Grand Rapids: Logan's Alley. Nice "real bar" atmosphere, but more importantly: Good Beer.

They are hosting the "Official Ichabod Release Party" next monday for New Holland Brewing Co.'s "Ichabod" pumpkin beer (fall seasonal)
They have beer specials every Wednesday (my typical bar day) and Thursday, where one of their draughts is only 2 bucks

Interesting also is their "Around the World Club" challenge: Drink all their beers in 1 year's time. I just might do it too. It'd be a rather significant expense, but I figured it out and it doesn't cost much more than my cable internet bill. (comcast is the devil)

If I take on the challenge, it will begin next Wednesday, my birthday (21 plus 1). If so, expect to see detailed posts on here about each beer- maybe using Swede's rating system.

If Mrs. Swede Would Let Me...

...I'd live off of bread and beer forever.
